MEET THE TEAM

We have a small core team of staff and a much wider group of individuals who work with us on specific tasks and/or projects.  The core team works out of Number 1 The Strand Arcade.  We’re a friendly bunch and have a kettle, so please drop in to say hello.

Matt McGuinness

Matt is the Creative Director at Furthest from the Sea and is the original driving force behind the organisation.  Matt’s vision is to see people and places transformed by individuals, businesses, educators and community organisations coming together through participation in artistic activity - starting with, but by no means limited to, Derby.  As a writer and musician Matt is looking forward to a UK tour of his debut show “We Are What We Overcome” around Mental Health Awareness week in May 2019.

Dan Webber

Dan has been involved in the Midlands Arts Scene for the last 15 years and is an established actor, spoken word artist, producer and director. His background in theatre and education has fuelled his passion and enthusiasm for supporting grass-roots artists and has helped shape his role at Furthest from the Sea, engaging with a diverse and growing group of individuals and organisations from Derby and beyond.  Dan’s role mostly involves programming for our events and he can often be found dressed as a (rather notorious) Pirate Captain…

Eileen Wright

With a background which includes a Chemistry degree and a PhD in Sustainable Engineering, Eileen brings a methodical approach to the development of the organisation’s operations and growth. Eileen also loves music, theatre, poetry and books and thinks everyone should have the chance to find out if they might love them too.  Much of Eileen’s role at Furthest from the Sea involves working out ways to make this happen – by writing funding applications and supporting planning and promotion of activities.
