Maison Foo Person Birds
These are no ordinary birds and this is no ordinary bird show, these are The Person Birds....Inspired by the traditions of bird display shows fused with the madness of live science experiments. This hilarious street theatre walkabout sees Maison Foo raise their bar of ridiculousness even higher with surreal and comical life size birds with a Foo twist, they are half bird half human! Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. 1.30 pm at Mermaid's Rock.
Learn some Circus Skills and Juggling at Messy Moss's interactive Workshops on The Deck throughout the day.
The Lost Boys
The Lost Boys take you through a whistle stop workshop of pirate action; Swords, slaps, punches, pushes, falls maybe even a tickle, all designed to get you to give up your treasure or walk the plank. 11.30am at Mermaid's Rock and roaming throughout the day.
Described as "more entertaining than any other magic show", Lord Illusion is ready to make the impossible happen right under your nose, and make you laugh while doing it! Drop into the Magic Tent on The Deck for shows throughout the day.
My Music is Rubbish! How to turn waste into music - make a shaker and samba-shake all the way home! junk4funk has facilitated 100's of recycled music workshops all over the UK, in schools, at festivals, and for the likes of Fair Trade, BMW, EDF Energy, The National Trust, IKEA and Biffa. Workshop on The Deck - drop in for free throughout the day.
Inflate and Paint
Bag a balloon cutlass and get yourself a beard! Find Inflate and Paint on The Deck throughout the day for free face painting and piratical balloon fun.
Sing for your Supper
12.30 pm on The Deck and 3.00 pm on Mermaid's Rock.
Scribble Victory are a dynamic acoustic-pop duo from Derby, UK. Formed in November 2013, they were featured in the top 120 ‘long-list’ for Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent competition 2015 and were listed as one of the top 50 acts to look out for in 2015 by Louder Than War magazine. The duo consists of Jamie Thompson (acoustic guitar and vocals) and Tomas Ward (drums and vocals). Don't miss their unique sound on The Deck at 3.30 pm.
Refugee Week Launch
Refugee Week 2017 in Derby will be launching during the Furthest from the Sea Festival with performances from the Bosnian community, a workshop from British Red Cross on the refugee crisis and opportunities to meet and talk to refugees seeking sanctuary in Derby. Refugee Week is a platform to learn about and celebrate the individuals and families that have found safety in our city. There are many events happening in the week which can be found on facebook.
Emma has been hula hooping for 7 years, hailing from Bristol where there are about 500 other hula Hoopers! She aims to create a warm, friendly, inclusive atmosphere in her community workshops and on stage performances. She has taught 100s of people to hula at the waist & can teach you some fancy circus tricks! Her stage act is fun & family friendly. Join in one of the Workshops on the Deck throughout the day.
JiJi La Volpe
2.15 pm at Mermaid's Rock.
Alif Laila and Pritam Singh
A not-to-be-missed collaboration of two master musicians on The Deck at 2.40 pm. Classical raga and traditional folk tunes of Bengal on sitar with the dexterity and magical sound of tabla rhythms. Drop into the Tabla Workshop in the Captain's Quarters at 3.30 pm.
Derby A Cappella
Unaccompanied male voice chorus singing popular songs, songs from screen, stage and beyond arranged in 4-part harmony in the barbershop style. 12 pm on The Deck.
Cordao do Ouro Capoeira
Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that encompasses elements of acrobatics, gameplay, dance and music. The ‘game’ of capoeira is typically non-contact and cooperative in nature and can be played by anyone of any age and ability. Performance on The Deck at 11.30 am and Workshop on Mermaid's Rock at 12.20 pm.
Derby Comedy Writers Club
Derby Comedy Writers Club presents a FREE workshop 'An introduction to writing material' with mentoring and advice from Derbyshire based performers and comedians. All welcome, from newbies to established acts looking to brush up. 12.30 pm in The Jolly Roger.
Arjana are taught and choreographed by professional dancer Diana Mehira, and are representing The Diana Mehira School of Dance which is based on London Road, Derby and holds weekly classes from beginner to advanced level. Don't miss them on Mermaid's Rock at 3.30 pm.
Adele Francesca Performance Academy
3.10 pm on The Deck.
This year's Festival has an exciting programme with performances on "The Deck" (opposite Derby QUAD) and "Mermaid's Rock" (the Waterfall) from some of the very best Choirs, Dance Troupes, Singer Songwriters and Theatre Companies - all from Derbyshire. Inside the Guildhall Clubrooms a range of Workshops and Seminars are available - all are free to participate in - just drop in!
The Market Square provides a hive of activity for all the family - get creative and participate in one of the many hands-on workshops available, and watch out for special performances in the Magic Tent and from our roaming theatre companies.
